Getaway Guide: Cameron Highlands

Hey there Adventurers.

Since we can’t travel to countries that are cooler, Cameron Highlands is a nice spot for a short getaway from KL’s city heat, hustle and bustle. Known for its green vast tea plantations, fresh fruits, strawberry farms and rose gardens.

Named after the first explorer & soldier Sir Willam Cameron. After several expeditions, Cameron Highlands was discovered and wasn’t fully built until 1925.

2 Days – Things to do, Where to stay and What to eat:

A tranquil historic area Cameron Highlands is located in the state of Pahang. The contrast between the English countryside sights with Tudor styled cottages and serene tea plantations up the hills make it an interesting and worthwhile place to visit. It’s like going back in time.

Journey time

It’s almost a 3 hour drive from KL to Cameron by car and a 4.5 hour bus route. For those of you catching the bus. You can book the tickets on easybook and get down at TBS (Terminal Bersepadu Selatan) to get on it.

Getting around

Grab isn’t available so expect to pay a little extra for taxis to get around to places. Usually it’s 25 RM/per hour, other rates such as a two way trip from Strawberry Park Resort to The Lake house is RM80.

Weather

The cool weather where the temperature ranges from 24c during the day – 10c degrees at night makes it a perfect place to enjoy tea and scones. Monsoon season is November – February, Dry season is February- April and Cold season is December – February. Bring at least one cosy jumper or sweater

Things to do

Visit tea plantations, tea cafes, go for a walk at the Mossy Forest where you can learn to identify plants such as herbal, medical plants and orchids. The Semai tribe/Orang Asli who are the indigenous and oldest inhabitants of peninsular malaysia live there. Other than that you can visit the strawberry farm, honey bee farm, rose, orchid and butterfly farms.

Where to stay

Strawberry Park Resort is a clean spacious resort overlooking the lush greenery up the hillside. You can enjoy a choice of local, western and vegetarian breakfast in the balcony. The meals are delicious and their hospitality is good. You can find the clickable links to the resort and few other options below

Strawberry Park Resort, Smokehouse Hotel or the Lakehouse

Strawberry Park Resort

The Lakehouse is a Tudor style cottage home tucked away in the hillside, with a flower garden overlooking a large beautiful lake. Starting it’s operations in 1979, its historic charm is from the colonial architecture, vintage telephones, typewriters and music record players.

The best bit of spending the evening there was the wood burning fireplaces. A cosy spot to enjoy tea, homemade scones with fresh cream and strawberry jam.
